Pioneer was contracted in February of 2023 to perform materials testing services for a proposed refrigerated warehouse. The planned warehouse, which is approximately 97,000 square feet, and surrounding site encompass approximately 6.5 acres of land in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.
Pioneer worked in partnership with the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure adherence to building standards and specifications of materials installed and used in work performed for various critical construction activities. Pioneer performed observation and testing of construction materials per ASTM specifications and those provided in project plans, such as soil testing, aggregate backfill placement, concrete placement and strength testing, concrete steel reinforcement, structural steel, pavement installation, and floor flatness/levelness testing of finished concrete. The specific bearing requirements of the large refrigeration units in the warehouse pertaining to subgrade bearing materials and concrete installation posed a unique opportunity for Pioneer to show our experience and knowledge in the materials testing field, as well as our understanding of materials, and demonstrated Pioneer’s ability to adapt and manage changes in materials and conditions on site as necessary.
