Pioneer was contracted in August of 2021 to perform materials testing services for a proposed Amazon warehouse and distribution center. The planned facility and surrounding site encompassed approximately 16.65 acres of land previously occupied by an automotive salvage yard, which presented a myriad of challenges and opportunities to display Pioneer’s experience, ability, and knowledge of earthwork and foundation excavations and remediation in regard to materials testing.
In addition to extensive geotechnical and environmental testing challenges that this location posed, both due to its previous usage as an automotive salvage yard and the relatively large size of the site, Pioneer worked in partnership with the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure compliance and quality of work for various critical construction activities and components. Pioneer performed observation and testing of construction materials per ASTM specifications and those provided in project plans, such as soil testing, aggregate backfill placement, concrete placement and strength testing, concrete steel reinforcement, structural steel, pavement installation, and floor flatness/levelness testing of finished concrete. Pioneer worked diligently to ensure that the work was performed and the materials installed, not only properly but also efficiently, in cases of deficiencies and remediation due to a strict construction schedule and — as always — providing our customary optimum level of customer service.
