Pioneer was contracted by a major midwestern developer to conduct Phase I investigations and radon measurement studies at two multi-family residential complexes in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago. The complexes were constructed in the early 1980s and consisted of 15 residential structures featuring a total of 48, two-story townhouse units and 68, one-story residential units. The developer sought to revitalizes these facilities with modern updates and Pioneer’s Phase I investigations and radon measurement studies played a crucial role in securing funding for these projects.
The Phase I investigations did not identify any environmental concerns; however, the initial radon measurement studies identified potentially harmful levels of radon in both residential complexes. Pioneer’s experience and expertise allowed for the quick deployment of follow-up long-term radon tests in each of the units with elevated radon levels. By ensuring the necessary equipment was properly deployed, the developer was able to quickly identify the locations in need of radon mitigation, thereby safeguarding the long-term health of the residents. Pioneer’s services not only addressed these potential health concerns but also played a vital role in securing funding for the necessary renovations to improve the overall safety and quality of the residential complexes.
